Has Stand Up Comedy Become To Politically Correct

As a Stand Up Comedian, I have watched the world of comedy evolve over the past 20 years.  I am not saying that I have been an active participant in all of those 20 years, yet I have watched it change.  Some changes are for the good and some (in my opinion) are not.  It seems to me that comedy has become so Politically Correct, yes P.C..

Personally, I do not believe that this is how comedy is meant to be.  Comedy is suppose to be a free expression of what one as a comedian thinks and feels about a situation, people, places or thing that are going on around them.  Anymore it feels like we are sometimes stopped in our tracks by people that find anything that they personally do not find funny, offensive.

It seems that people have developed very thin skin, even when they purposely come to a comedy show or comedy club.  Anymore, instead of appreciating the material that is presented, they are analysing the material for content, like everyone works for a government agency that monitors what is being said by comedians.

Often, when I go to a show, I set back and watch the faces of the audience members as the act before me or after me goes on.  It is amazing the reactions some people show, often it less then laughter.  Sometimes I be waiting for people to pull out a pen and pad and start scoring the performance like a gymnastic or diving competition.

As far as the Political Correctness, this is way out of line.  Why should we as comedian or fans of comedy be Politically Correct if we are in a place that is serving alcohol, the age is over 21 and it is an event after 8:00 in the evening.  Unless Obama is coming, it is time to let your hair down, be comfortable and laugh.  It seems that this is not the case.

Unless it is predetermined what kinda of comedy you are to be performing, you should be able to say or perform as you wish.  Admittedly, not everyone is gonna like what you do or say, but they don't have to set there like they are the Comedy Police.

People, lighten up, relax and have fun.  Leave the political correctness for those that need that in their lives, their is to much going on around us for us not to be able to loosen up and enjoy ourselves every now and then.

PEACE

You mean "too" P.C., not "to" P.C. If you're trying to make an intelligent argument for or against something, it would help to spell things correctly.

Same in Britain, we have media led campaigns against Russel Brand, Jimmy Carr and Frankie Boyle. Crazy it is just a joke.

p.s are the comedy police worse than the Grammar police.
